Technology complex completed - Business park to house military/civilian partnerships

Guidon - August 2003

Construction of the Missouri Research Park Center was recently completed at Fort Leonard Wood.

The office complex is located at the University of Missouri Technology Park on Replacement Avenue.

The center’s infrastructure was completed in three phases. Office space in phases one and three have already been completely leased out and the second phase is 50 percent occupied.

The idea for the center was conceived in 1997 when government officials approached commissioned markets to get advice on developing a technology park on post.

The University of Missouri came up with a marketing and business plan and volunteered, said Rick Finholt, executive director of the Office of Economic Development and Research Parks of the University of Missouri.

The 62-acre technology park cost about $2.5 million to develop. The center is a joint venture of the University of Missouri and the Missouri Technology Corporation of Jefferson City.

According to the project Web site at www.mrpbusinesscenter.org, the center is a “…high profile and secure office environment providing furnished, staffed and technology-equipped office space and team rooms.”

The web site states that the park is a catalyst for:

- Partnerships between the military, corporations and academia.

- Business growth in a truly one-of-a-kind setting.

- Technology transfer and continuing education via University of Missouri, Rolla.

- Regional economic growth and employment.

The center provides immediate access to military contacts for suppliers, contractors and other businesses that work closely with the Army.

The business tenants that have leased space in the center, thus far, are:

- Advancia Corporation – specializes in program and project management, engineering, management and training.
